TPMHA Recreation Hockey Program Overview

The TPMHA Recreation (House) Hockey Program is designed to provide a fun, inclusive, and safe environment for players of all ages and skill levels to learn and enjoy the game of hockey.

This program emphasizes skill development, teamwork, self-confidence, and most importantly—fun. It serves as the foundation for players who may later pursue competitive or female hockey streams.

Aligned with BC Hockey and Hockey Canada’s Long-Term Player Development model, TPMHA’s recreation program supports age-appropriate, skill-specific programming that promotes lifelong participation in the sport. The program is structured to ensure continuity and consistency as players progress through different age divisions.

Program Objectives

  • Support individual player development in a positive and encouraging environment.
  • Promote safe and enjoyable hockey experiences for all participants.
  • Emphasize sportsmanship, fair play, and respect for teammates, coaches, and officials.

BC Hockey’s Approach

BC Hockey’s recreational programming, including the U7 and U9 Cross-Ice Delivery, focuses on maximizing puck touches, movement, and engagement. These formats have been proven to enhance skill development and enjoyment by increasing player involvement in every game and practice

Hockey Canada’s Philosophy

Hockey Canada believes that when more people play, the game grows stronger. Their recreational programs—from Timbits U7 to adult leagues—are designed to make hockey accessible, safe, and fun for everyone.
