Coaching Requirements
1. Criminal Record Check (this can take up to 2 weeks to complete)
Access Code: FY4HH6R6BN
- Cost: free for volunteers
- Re-certification: Every 3 years prior to the beginning of each season and before stepping on the ice.
- Method: On Line
Completed CRC's will be sent back to the TPMHA Administrator.
Must be completed before stepping on the ice.
*The key is to start this process early, a CRC can take up to 2 weeks to receive back.
2. Respect in Sport - Activity Leader
- Cost: $35
- Re-certification: 5 years
- Method: E Learning
- Completion Time: 3 Hours
- Completion Date: Before Season starts and before stepping on the ice.
3. Concussion Awareness Tool (CATT)
- BC Hockey announced June 27, 2016 that all BC Hockey team officials are required to be qualified in the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) prior to their participation in any practice or game starting for the 2016 - 2017 season. This includes safety personnel, team managers, and all coaches
- The link for the 40 minute course is embedded in the bulletin. It is FREE!
- Completion Date: Before Season starts and before stepping on the ice.
**It is a good idea to save a copy of your completed certificate**
4. Coaching Certification
All coaches must have completed the required BC Hockey clinics before December 1st.

On-Ice Helpers
TPMHA encourages and welcomes on-ice helpers!
The following guidelines are in place for on-ice helpers; the chart (link below) is provided to assist in ensuring all on-ice helpers are compliant with policies and expectations of the insurance program:
1. Any on-ice helpers must be a current registered member of BC Hockey / Hockey Canada. If the individual is not currently registered through a BC Hockey Member or as an Associate Member, the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) needs to be updated to include this person on the roster as a “volunteer” with the team(s).
2. Any helper, 16 years and older must take Respect in Sport. Additionally, the helper must be under the direct supervision of the certified team officials. Concussion Awareness Training Tool is not mandatory for on-ice helpers.
3. Non-members offering coaching or other on-ice help for a fee are not volunteers, and therefore, must become a BC Hockey Associate Member prior to participation. Any person working in this capacity should not be rostered with a Minor Hockey Association (MHA).
4. MHAs are not to create “Volunteer” teams within the HCR for volunteers or executive members who do not participate in on-ice activities with the registered participants.
